Standard Guide:

The Aluminium Extruded Guide and Bottom Bar supplied with all our Domestic and Security aluminium roller shutters. It supports the shutter head box and the slat profile runs up and down in it.

The guide and bottom bar sections of the roller shutter are extruded aluminium, coated with a unique finish. This coating has been computer matched to the colour of the head box. However, it will be slightly different to the slat profile due to paint types.

Mechanical Properties:

The guide profile is approximately 53mm x 23mm and is designed with a hollow section on the outer side. This hollow section allows for multiple fixing points as well as supporting the head box end plate.

Bottom Bar:

The bottom bar is the section along the bottom of the shutter curtain (slats), and its primary function is to straighten the curtain.

It is used with the Domestic, Security and Cyclone range of shutters.

Aluminium Head Boxes

Mechanical Properties:

The bottom bar section has a cover size of approximately 51 mm and is 7.5mm wide. This is a multi hollow extrusion that adds strength to the profile, while allowing the fixing of concealed bottom bar stoppers.

Extended Guide:

The extended guide can be supplied with the Domestic and Security range.

Get an Extended Guide for your aluminium roller shutters for a more secure fixing. Our standard guide is 53mm x 23mm and has a 25mm channel section (this is the section that provided the track that the curtain moves up and down). The extended guide is 69mm x 23mm. While the hollow cavity that supports the leg and provides an area for the fastening points remains the same, the channel section is increased from 25mm to 41mm. This feature increases the overlap of the curtain into the guide therefore offering more stability in the case of abnormal forces being applied.
Please note: The added width must be taken into account when measuring your window or doorway, especially in the case of “On Wall” installation method. Add 138mm to the opening size of the door or window with an “On Wall” an installation.

Cyclone Roller Shutters

Cyclone Guide:

The Cyclone guide has a heavy-duty section that has been specifically designed for this shutter. It measures 69mm x 25mm x 3mm. As you can see in this image the slat insert is restrained into the guide profile. This design considerably increases the force needed to disengage the slat from the guide. The slat may deflect slightly, as is common, however once it reaches a certain point the inserts will act on two flanges shown in the guide and this will reduce the deflection.
The curtain of the aluminium roller shutter must closed down into a guide, to prevent wind getting behind the curtain and meet the standards for the Cyclone rating, . We supply the extended guide (above) for this, which is also 69mm.

Commercial Guide:

The guide profile is approximately 76mm x 28mm and is designed with a hollow section on the outer side. This hollow allows for multiple fixing points as well as supporting the head box end plate.

Mechanical Properties:

This bottom bar section is used with our Commercial  range. It has a cover size of approximately 56.4mm and is 10.3mm wide. This is a multi hollow extrusion which is fitted to the bottom of the curtain to add strength to the profile, while allowing the fixing of concealed bottom bar stoppers.
